CHENNAI: There is a disconnect between what the industry says is good communication and what an educational institution imparts to its students, said Arunachalam TK of Cambridge English on Thursday.
Speaking at an HR summit organized by the Cambridge English Language Assessment together with Madras Management Association here, he said, “Each industry requires a different standard of communication skills.
They look for certain language skills while recruiting. What is good for an IT company will be different from what a healthcare company seeks from a candidate during recruitment.”
“There is a disconnect between what the industry says is good communication and what the education institutions imparts to its students. With this summit, we are aiming at bridging this gap, raising standards of communication and developing English language as a skill rather than just an academic subject,” he said.
Arunachalam said they were also working with teachers to improve their English language and communication skills.
Corporate heads, HR managers, faculty members and placement officers participated in the summit.
